About the ACT Model Car Racing club
Established in the late 1990's, the ACTMCRC kicked off racing 1/10th scale electric off road buggies at a track off Wheeler Cct, Wanniassa. As RC racing evolved, the club begun racing 1/10th scale on road cars at EPIC eventually suspending its off road racing activities.
During the later half of the first decade of the 2000's, the club took control of the On Road track located at Jenkie Cct in Kambah, initially to host the 2008 1/10th On Road National Titles, eventually the club added out door electric and nitro racing to its activities.
In 2012, with the support of the ACT Government, the club built a facility located on the Kambah ovals, off Kett St in Kambah, finally securing a permanent home.
In 2015 the club returned to its roots, adding 1/10th Off road indoor racing to its program.
What do we race?
On road Radio Controlled Cars.
Primarily 1/10th scale electric touring cars, but also 1/8th and 1/10th scale nitro powered cars, Tamiya M-Chassis, 1/10th F1 & 1/12th scale electric.
You can see our technical rules document here.
How does it work?
The cars are divided up in classes, based on the type of car, motor and skill of the driver. For more information on the classes check our rules page.
The actual racing is conducted in the following way. Each race, or heat, lasts for 6 minutes plus the time it takes you to finish your last lap. The car that completes the most number of laps is declared the winner of the heat.
During the course of a normal race meeting, you get two chances at setting a qualifying time (qualifying times are determined by the number of laps you complete in a single heat). Your best qualifying time determines your qualifying position in the finals.
You will then compete in two finals, starting from your qualifying position in a grid start. Your finishing position for the day is calculated by combined points from your finishing position in the two finals.
What equipment do I need?
Your remote controlled car, transmitter, batteries and a charger is all you need.
We recommend that you have at least two or three batteries and at least one spare set of channel crystals (unless you are using a 2.4Ghz radio).
Other things to bring to a race meeting include tools for working on your car, a fold up table and a chair for our indoor meetings (we have tables and chairs at Kambah for racers to use)
The first time you race with us is free.
$15.00 plus $5.00 for each additional entry for members.
$20.00 plus $5.00 for each additional entry for non-members.
$5.00 for members under 16 years of age.
Members of CORMCC and the BBRCCC are charged membership rates to race.
Where are the race meetings held?
Indoor racing normally happens in Building F (Fitzroy) or Building M (Mallee) at Exhibition Park In Canberra. Sometimes due to other users of the park we might race in one of the other pavilions.
Outdoor racing happens at the Kambah tarmac track on Kett St, Kambah.
We try to note the location of each meeting on our calendar. For the exact location of the buildings check the location page.
When are race meetings held?
We normally race indoor every second Tuesday night. Outdoor racing usually happens every second Sunday morning.
For the same reason as we sometimes have to change buildings, we sometimes have to have an extended break between race meetings. To find out when we are racing check out the calendar page.
We open the doors to the indoor track between 6 and 6.30pm. We take entries up to 6.50pm when we hold a drivers meeting and start racing around 7.00pm. A typical race meeting lasts for about 3 and a quarter hours, this sees us finishing about 10.30pm. We run the novice class at the start of each round, this allows our younger competitors to leave before the meeting has concluded.
The outdoor racing track opens at around 8am with racing usually starting at around 9am.
The club charges an annual membership fee of:
$25.00 for Students and Concession card holders
$45.00 for Single membership (12 Months)
$60.00 for a Family membership (12 Months)
Memberships can be paid at race meetings either by cheque or cash. You can also pay via EFT transfer direct to the clubs bank account. Remember to put your name in the comments field and send us an E-Mail to advise us of you application/renewal. The details for the EFT are:
